He was in the steam saw and lumber mill business in Houston County, GA before the War; he had moved there from Macon County, NC a few years before. He enlisted in Company C, 6th Georgia Infantry on 27 May 1861 and was appointed 5th Corporal, date not given. He was elected Junior 2nd Lieutenant (or 3rd Lieutenant) on 5 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and promoted to First Lieutenant to date from the same day.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Captain in January 1865 but was killed at Bentonville, NC on 18 March 1865.
