Son of prosperous Early County planter Jesse Collier (23 slaves), he enlisted on 27 May 1861 in Atlanta, GA and mustered as a Private in Company H, 6th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to about 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was in a Richmond, VA hospital by 20 October, sent to the parole camp, Camp Lee in Richmond on 7 November, and was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862. He died of scarlatina (scarlet fever) in the post hospital at Camp Lee on 17 November 1862.
