He enlisted on 13 May 1861 in Company D, 7th Virginia Infantry at Giles Courthouse. Promoted to Sergeant (date unknown).
On the Campaign
He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was at Ft. McHenry, MD and exchanged soon after capture. Court-martialed 2/20/65 and found guilty of encouraging insubordination and mutiny; sent to Castle Thunder, Richmond, with sentence of 2 years' hard labor. Was released and returned to duty 3/29/65. No further record.
