A 27 year old farmer, he was conscripted and enlisted in Chatham County on 15 July 1862 as a Private in Company E, 5th North Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds while a prisoner at Ft. Delaware on 14 December 1862.
