Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 16 year old farmer living with his parents, (Aunt?) Jabel Young, 3 siblings, and one slave (with one a fugitive) on their place at Greensboro in Guilford County, NC. He enlisted on 28 February 1862 at Greensboro, NC and mustered as Private, Company B, 27th North Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His father William W. Young filed for his final pay of $53.23 in December 1862 which was paid in July 1864.
