A 28 year old farmer in Guilford County, he enlisted there as Private, Company B, 27th North Carolina Infantry on 28 February 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the foot in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg and was captured.

The rest of the War

He died of his wound on 29 September 1862, probably in a field hospital near the battlefield.
