In 1860 he was a 22 year old farmer living with his parents, siblings, and 3 slaves on their place at Greensboro in Guilford County, NC. He enlisted on 4 May 1861 at Fort Macon, NC and mustered as Private, Company B, 27th North Carolina Infantry on 20 June.

On the Campaign

He died of "fever" at Frederick, MD on 12 September 1862.
