Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 19 year old clerk living on his parents' farm at White Cross in Orange County, NC. He enlisted in Hillsborough on 20 April 1861 and mustered as a Private in the Orange Guards - Company G, 27th North Carolina Infantry - on 22 June.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862. His father James filed for his final pay in March 1863.
