Before Antietam
In 1860 he was a 19 year old living with his parents and 5 siblings on the family farm at West Point in Columbia County, WI. He enlisted in Baraboo, WI on 16 June 1861 and mustered in Madison as a Private in Company A, 6th Wisconsin Infantry on 16 July.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action on 17 September 1862.

His service from the State of Wisconsin1 and his Compiled Service Records (CSRs).2 A casualty list in the Philadelphia Inquirer of 20 September 1862 says he was wounded at Antietam, probably in error.
