From Perry, he enlisted in Company B, 6th Wisconsin Infantry on 10 May 1861. Promoted to Corporal and Sergeant.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

Wounded again in action at Petersburg, VA in 1864, and appointed 2nd Lieutenant on 21 December 1864. He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 21 July 1865, but did not muster at that rank.
