From Bridge Creek, he enlisted in Company B, 6th Wisconsin Infantry on 10 May 1861. He was promoted to Corporal and Sergeant.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
Also wounded in action at Laurel Hill (10 May 1864). He was discharged for wounds on 28 October 1864.
