Before Antietam

From Milwaukee, he enlisted in Company E, 6th Wisconsin Infantry on 10 May 1861 and was promoted to Corporal and First Sergeant. He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant on 16 July 1862 and promoted to First Lieutenant on 6 August.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the thigh in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam and died later the same day.
