In 1860 he was a 23 year old farmer on his father Isaac's place at Bainbridge, Berrien County, MI. He enlisted in Company G, 6th Wisconsin Infantry on 11 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was detached to Battery B, 4th US Artillery on 12 September 1862, and was killed in action with the battery at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
