From Kildare, he enlisted in Company K, 6th Wisconsin Infantry on 20 June 1861. He was promoted to Corporal and Sergeant.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
Wounded also at Gettysburg, PA in July 1863.
