From Wonewoc, he enlisted in Company K, 6th Wisconsin Infantry on 21 June 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was discharged 18 December 1862 for disability, but re-enlisted 19 February 1863. He was again wounded in action at Gettysburg, PA in July 1863.
