Before Antietam
A 23 year old laborer, he enlisted on 25 January 1858 in Detroit, MI as a Private in Battery B of the 4th United States Artillery. He was with the Battery at Ruby Valley, Utah Territory in July 1860, and was still a Private as they joined the Army of the Potomac in October 1861.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
