Unit history

Originally organized as Company D of the Wise (VA) Legion Artillery in July 1861, they were designated an independent battery in February 1862.

On the Sharpsburg Campaign

They arrived at Sharpsburg on 15 September 1862 and were in action on Cemetery Hill near the town on the 17th.

By ANV Special Orders Number 209 dated 4 October 1862, this battery was disbanded as 'inefficient' (usually meaning undermanned, horsed, or equipped), and it's men and materiel distributed to other batteries.
