Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 19 year old farm worker on his parent's place near Green Bank, Pocahontas County, VA. He enlisted there as a Private in Company G, 31st Virginia Infantry on 29 May 1861 along with his brother Valentine.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was paroled on 21 September 1862 but was listed as absent without leave in November 1862 with no later military record.
After the War
He was a miner in Yavapai County, AZ by 1888 and was admitted as a resident to the Arizona Pioneers' Home, Prescott, AZ on 1 June 1920. He died there, unmarried, from liver and stomach cancer in 1926.
