Before Antietam

A clerk in Winchester, he enlisted in Company G, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry on 8 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in the foot in action 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

Promoted Corporal on 29 November 1862. Wounded in the head at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863 and returned to duty on 1 September. Promoted to First Sergeant on 1 October 1863. Reenlisted on 31 December 1863. Appointed First Lieutenant on 24 May 1864. Mustered out in July 1865.

After the War

He was a clerk in Winchester, but later "moved West" to Ohio.
