Before Sharpsburg

A farmer in Spartanburg, he enlisted as Private, Company K, 5th South Carolina Infantry on 13 April 1861. He was promoted to Corporal by November 1861 and Sergeant by July 1862. He was appointed First Sergeant by September.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

His older brothers James Columbus Moss (1836-1906) and John F. Moss were also in the Company. James survived the war, but John was also killed at Sharpsburg.
