Before Sharpsburg

From Pitt County, he enlisted there on 15 July 1862 as Private, Company D, 3rd North Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in his left thigh in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 15 October and transferred out to a hospital in Baltimore on 9 February 1863. He was sent on to Fort McHenry on 14 or 15 February and was paroled and exchanged at City Point, VA, and in a hospital in Petersburg, VA by 18 February. He was furloughed in March and absent to at least April 1863 with no further military record.

After the War

In 1880 he was a sawyer in Contentnea, Pitt County.
