Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a married 24 year old farmer in Lauderdale County, MS. He gave his residence as Randolph in Bibb County, AL when he enlisted there on 14 May 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company H, 44th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the leg in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He left his regiment on 18 September and was admitted to CS General Hospital #3 in Richmond on 26 September. He died there of typhoid fever (+ wound?) on 17 October 1862. His widow Martha filed for his final pay in August 1863.

He married Martha Ann Hayes (1844-1927) in November 1859 and they had a son Jackson (1862-1935).

His brother Edmond was also wounded at Sharpsburg and also died in a Richmond hospital, in January 1863.
