Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 22 year old printer in Montgomery, AL, he enlisted in Selma, AL on 24 April 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company C, 4th Alabama Infantry. He was listed as absent without leave in February 1862 (probably in a Richmond, VA hospital) and transferred to Company H of the 13th Alabama Infantry on 1 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in Maryland and in action with them on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and at Sharpsburg on 17 September, where he was wounded.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, at Gettysburg on 3 July 1863 and was captured in Pennsylvania on 6 July 1863 on the return march. He was a prisoner at Fort Delaware and took an oath of allegiance there and was released on 10 June 1865.

After the War

He moved to Texas in 1871 and was in Cherokee County, TX after 1895.
