Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 23 year old teacher living with Lot Dodson, his family, and 4 slaves on their farm in Tallapoosa County, AL. He enlisted at Yorktown, VA on 22 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company C of the 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of pneumonia in the 2nd Alabama Hospital in Richmond, VA on 8 February 1863. His father Robert filed for his final pay in July 1864.
