In 1860 he was a 22 year old living with his parents and 4 siblings on their farm at Mount Pleasant in Martin County, IN. He enlisted and mustered on 7 June 1861 as a Private in Company C, 14th Indiana Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the arm and listed as captured in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862. There is no later record.
