Before Antietam

In 1860 he was a 15 year old living with his parents and 4 siblings on their farm at Mount Pleasant in Martin County, IN. He enlisted and mustered on 4 January 1862 as a Private in Company C, 14th Indiana Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the leg in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He transferred to the 20th Indiana Infantry on 6 June 1864 and mustered out on 3 January 1865.

After the War

By 1870 he was a farmer living with his mother and 3 younger siblings at Shoals in Martin County, IN.
