Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 22 year old farm worker on William Robertson's place near Madison in Morgan County, GA. He enlisted on 29 July 1861 and mustered in Richmond, VA on 2 August as a Private in Company G of the Infantry Battalion, Cobb's Legion.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was on wounded furlough to 15 December 1862, then returned to duty. He was promoted to 2nd Corporal by June 1864 and was a Sergeant when he was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

After the War

By 1870 and to at least 1910 he was a farmer in Morgan County, GA.
