Thomas D. Aldridge

In 1860 he was a 19 year old laborer living with his parents and 6 younger siblings at Tallahassee in Leon County, FL. He enlisted at Camp Anderson (or Leon) near Tallhassee on 10 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company K, 5th Florida Infantry.

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD on 9 September, left behind, and captured there on the 12th.

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 22 September and afterward paroled and transferred for exchange. He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 15 October and sent to the parole camp there on 18 October 1862. He was captured again, at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864 and was a prisoner at Point Lookout, MD to 27 July, then at Elmira, NY to 4 June 1865, when he took an oath of allegiance to the United States and was released.

In 1870 he was farming next door to his father-in-law Britton Sawyer at Swift Creek in Craven County, NC but by 1880 and to at least 1900 was a farmer in Beaufort County, NC. In 1910 he was retired and living with his daughter Malinda (Taylor) and her family in Beaufort County.

He married Emeline Sawyer (1848-1911) in May 1869 and they had a daughter Malinda (1873-1945).

His father Richard was also in Company K and was in Frederick with him in September 1862.
