Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 24 year old living with his parents and 10 younger siblings on their small farm at Magnolia in Clinch County, GA. He enlisted at Camp Brown near Savannah, GA on 5 May 1862 and mustered as 3rd Corporal of Company G of the 50th Georgia Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the head in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital #2 in Richmond, VA on 27 September, was promoted to Sergeant on 1 January 1863, and returned to his company by February. He was back in Chimborazo #2 with pneumonia on 7 April 1863 and died there on 14 April - his 28th birthday.
