Age 26, he enlisted in Plattsburg and mustered as Private, Company C, 16th New York Infantry on 23 September 1861.

On the Campaign

He was on the Campaign with his Company, but died of disease at the Regimental hospital near Bakersville, MD on 12 October 1862.

After the War

He was reinterred in the new National Cemetery about 1867.

Burial information from the Antietam Cemetery History1. Service from the Adjutant General.2 His gravesite is on Findagrave. His brothers John G. and Ira W., and cousin Sidney L. Hare (killed at Crampton's Gap) also served in Company C.
