Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 24 year old farm hand living with his parents on their small farm in Montgomery County, NC. He was conscripted there on 16 July 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company K, 14th North Carolina Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was with his Company in Maryland but was left behind at Fredrick, MD, and died of disease there on 10 September 1862.

His brother Alvis was also in Company K and died in Frederick that September.
