Confederate (CSA)

Lieutenant Colonel

Seaborn M. Manning

(1824 - 1862)

Home State: Georgia

Command Billet: Commanding Regiment

Branch of Service: Infantry

Unit: 49th Georgia Infantry

Before Sharpsburg

Age 38, from Pulaski County, he was commissioned Captain, Company K, 49th Georgia Infantry on 4 March 1862. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on 22 March 1862. He was mortally wounded in the right arm on 9 August 1862 at Cedar Run, VA and died of wounds on 9 September.

On the Campaign

His Brigade commander, General Thomas says he led his regiment at Sharpsburg, but that seems unlikely. Carman also has him in command, but may have relied on General Thomas' Report. The next senior officer seems to be Major Samuel T. Player, but it's not certain he was at Sharpsburg.
