Unit history

Also known as 1st Battery, Stuart's Horse Artillery. Lt. Breathed was promoted and assumed command after Capt. Pelham was made Battalion Commander in August 1862.

On the Sharpsburg Campaign

The battery was engaged on the Confederate left late on the 16th and into 17 September 1862. On the 18th, before recrossing the Potoamac, it was split into two 4-gun batteries under Captains Will McGregor and James Breathed.
