The Danville Artillery entered Confederate service April 22, 1861 under the command of Capt Lindsay M Shumaker (later Battalion leader). When they were reorganized on April 21, 1862, Captain George W. Wooding was elected Captain.1

Men and equipment from the disbanded Eighth Star New Market Artillery were added to the Battery in the ANV Artillery reorganization of October 1862.1
