From Iredell County, he enlisted there on 1 August 1862 as Private, Company C, 48th North Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled on 22 September and probably sent to a hospital in Richmond, VA where he died on 26 November 1862.
