Before Sharpsburg

A married 35 year old farmer in Lamar, he enlisted on 14 February 1862 at Yorktown, VA and mustered as a Private in Company K, 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September but was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His widow filed a claim for his final pay in January 1863.

He married Artemisia Caroline Abbott (1834-1929) in 1855 and they had 2 sons.

His brothers Archibald (1816-1881, later 1st AL Cavalry), Thompson, Burgess, Loftin (1836-1922), and James (1845-1864), and Archibalds's sons, his nephews, William B. and Archibald (1844-) were all also in Company K.
