Before Sharpsburg

A married 29 year old farmer, he enlisted at Yorktown, VA on 10 April 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company K of the 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a Richmond, VA hospital on 18 October and furloughed home on 22 October 1862. He was permanently disabled by his Sharpsburg wound and discharged on 10 March 1864.

After the War

By 1870 he was a farmer in Paulding County, GA, but in 1880 was farming in Lamar County, AL. He moved to Texas about 1897 and in 1900 was a farmer in Navarro County. He'd retired there and was living with his daughter Etta Jane and her family by 1910.

He married Ellenore H. Ward (1843-1910) in 1860 and they had 9 children.

His brothers Archibald (1816-1881, and Archibald's sons Archibald and William B.), William, Thompson, Loftin (1836-1922), and James (1845-1864) were also in Company K.
