Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 19 year old farmer living with his parents, Archibald and Mary, and 7 younger siblings on their small farm at Rockdale in Randolph County, AL. He enlisted in Randolph County on 12 (or 26) July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company K of the 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds in Shepherdstown, VA on 25 September 1862.
