"The Charlottesville Artillery, left at Richmond in August, did not rejoin the Army till after the battle of Sharpsburg. John R. Johnson's [Bedford, Virginia] and D'Aquin's [Louisiana Guard - to Hays' Brigade] batteries were the only ones present with this division at Sharpsburg, the others having been left at Harper's Ferry and Shepherdstown".1
