Unit history

They left New York on 14 August 1862 and arrived for duty at Harpers Ferry, VA on the 24th.

On the Antietam Campaign

The regiment took part in the defense of Harpers Ferry and saw action on Bolivar Heights above the Ferry on 14 and 15 September 1862. The were captured on the 15th along with the rest of the garrison.

After the Antietam Campaign

They were paroled on 16 September and sent to Annapolis, MD then on to Camp Douglas in Chicago. They were exchanged and returned to duty on 23 November 1862, served as guards at Camp Douglas into December, then were sent to Washington, DC. They campaigned in the field in the Army of the Potomac from Gettysburg in July 1863 through to Appomattox Court House in April 1865.
