Unit history
Organized in St. Paul from November 1861 to March 1862, they mustered for Federal service on 20 March. Temporarily attached as Company L to the First United States Sharpshooters in May 1862, afterwards served attached to the First Minnesota Infantry.
On the Antietam Campaign
The Company lost 22 men wounded (one of them mortally, one captured), more than half their number, in about 10 minutes at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

After the Antietam Campaign
The First Minnesota returned home and mustered out in February 1864, but the Sharpshooters, known as Company L, continued in field service until mustered out 19 March 1865.
