Unit history

Organized in late August 1862, this regiment had only just reported for duty at Washington, when it was assigned to the XII Army Corps, Army of the Potomac, and set off on what became the Maryland Campaign on 2 September.

After the Antietam Campaign

The Regiment was on picket duty in Maryland and Virginia through much of the winter 1862-3. They were again engaged at the battles of Chancellorsville (May 1863) and Gettysburg (July), before transferring to the Western Theater with the Corps. They were on the Atlanta and Carolina Campaigns of 1864 and 65.
